Take a sledding study break in Guelph

Dec 31, 2024

Take a fun sledding study break this winter in Guelph. Timbercreek’s Guelph Apartments are located only minutes from the University of Guelph in the heart of downtown.

Types of Sleds and Toboggans:

Sleds:

A sled is a type of lightweight frame that is designed to glide seamlessly over snow andTC Guelph Sledding ice. Sleds with flat bottoms work well on fresh snow, while sleds with runners are faster on hard and icy snow. For greater steering control make sure to choose a sled with handgrips. An easy and inexpensive option that is perfect for students is a snow carpet. These are lightweight, easy-to-carry and have a flat bottom for higher speeds. Snow Carpet Sleds can be bought at Canadian Tire, which is less than a 20-minute walk from Timbercreek’s Guelph Communities.

Toboggans:

Toboggans are slightly different from sleds as they are longer, more narrow and curled up at the front. They generally have grooved bottoms that help them slide fast and straight on snow and ice. Some are equipped with side railings, which help keep the crew aboard. Most toboggans are pretty lightweight and easy to carry.

Snow Tubes and Snow Saucers

For thrill seekers, snow tubes are designed for sliding, spinning and bouncing down snow-covered hills. A donut shaped tube will have you spiraling down the hill, while rectangular models will hold a straighter line and go very fast. Snow saucers are also circular in shape, tend to go very fast but are not inflatable like snow tubes. Both options will give an exhilarating ride.

Where to Go in Guelph:

Guelph has a number of great sledding and tobogganing hills near Timbercreek’s Guelph Community at 27 and 40 Vanier Drive. Eden Mills Memorial Park is a 15-minute transit ride from our Guelph Community. Centennial Park is another great option for sledding as it features well maintained hills that aren’t too busy and is only a seven-minute walk from Timbercreek’s Guelph Apartments.

Relax and enjoy the beautiful winter weather with some sledding and tobogganing in your area. Remember to have fun and be safe out on the slopes.
