  • How To Match Clothing Well: 5 Easy Tips For Matching Colours In Your Outfit

    Jun 26, 2018

    iStock-890698790

    Monochromes

Monochrome technically means shades of the same colour: white-grey, light-grey, grey, dark-grey, charcoal, etc. But it can also mean dressing all in the same hue. While the latter tends to be trickier to pull off, it definitely works in an all-grey suit for example. Monochromes are both easy and chic, in style in 2018, and can be matched in practically any way. Check it out.

    Earthtones

A solid, tried and true colour approach, especially for men, is matching a variety of earth tones, or “neutrals”. While this can include a big range of colours, it generally encompasses tans and browns, dark greens and olives, greys, blacks, and water tones. They all go well together making for a quick, easy, and fashionable outfit.  Find out more.

    Analogous vs. Complementary

Most people think complementary colours “complement” one another. In art, where the term originates, it means opposite. Complementary colours are directly opposite one another on the colour wheel. Red → Green. Blue → Orange, etc. Analogous colours are beside each other; red → orange → yellow. In clothing, analogous tends to mix better because you get shades of similar colours. Complementaries are highly contrasting and can quickly get circus-like in a single outfit.

    One colour accent

A great style approach is to wear an outfit of similar, monochromatic shades, and add a single pop of colour. A tie, a blazer, or a killer pair of bright Vans against a muted backdrop makes an outfit really sing without needing to put in a lot of effort.

Timbercreek hopes this list helps you match your outfit colours and define your own personal style. For more information about Timbercreek Communities in your city, please visit our website.

  • Masculine Decor For Your Home

    Jun 18, 2018

Manly decor goes way beyond posters and aftershave. And while classics like chrome, exposed pipes, bearskin rugs, and muted monochromes may always fit the bill, what's thought of as manly decor is changing, fast. For some ideas on how to outfit your pad with some manly decor, Timbercreek brings you this list of tips and tricks.

    iStock-678588380

    Rustic Loft Look

We love the look of this rustic loft. In particular we love its mix of masculine decor and vibrant colour. Bright colours tend to not be thought of as manly. But why not? While monochrome has been thought of as a manly palette forever, incorporating a bold accent colour can brighten up a space in a manly way. Pantone’s color of the year is pretty bold, yet gender neutral. Give it a try in your space by incorporating some ultraviolet throw pillows, curtains or furniture into the mix. Balanced with a hefty dose of white, grey, black or brown, a pop of colour can add amazing character to your space. Check out the loft we love here.

    Brewery Home

We’re swooning for this masculine home that’s located in an old brewery. Complete with high ceilings, brick walls, and concrete flooring, it has good bones. It also has a lot of great style that anyone can work into any space. Leather furniture (the more vintage the better) in combination with some well-scavenged furniture items (that mix styles and eras) work well here to create that perfect mix of chic, masculine, and eclectic. One of the rooms features a well-balanced cluster of black framed paintings and posters on the wall, as well as lots of rustic reclaimed wood pieces like coffee tables and shelves that add to the manly feel. See it for yourself and read more.

    Industrial Chic

This industrial style condo is deceptively simple and chic. Abundant use of greys and monochrome make it feel very masculine. If you want to achieve a similar look, you can’t go wrong by incorporating grey into your paint, linens, or furniture. Grey is also a major decor trend in 2018 and there’s a good reason for it: it allows for a mix of light reflectivity and blends well with practically every other color. We also love this condo’s use of artwork, in particular how they chose to hang their artwork above their TV to make the TV less of a focal point. They used art sparingly throughout, careful not to overcrowd the walls. See it for yourself here.

    Eclectic

Eclectic decor is basically defined as not sticking to one style or color scheme. It can be super freeing, and can lend major originality to a space. But it has to be handled with care as it’s easy to go from eclectic to kitchy. For a masculine eclectic look, most pieces in the home (furniture, throw rugs, etc.) should be dark or light -- from dark mauve to black or from white to grey. This creates the opportunity for your artwork and small accent pieces to tastefully steal the show. Look for abstract art pieces, bold flowers, and brightly coloured or patterned accent pillows. Check out a great example of a chic eclectic space here.

Timbercreek hopes these ideas for creating a more manly and stylish space help you design the home of your dreams. For more information about Timbercreek Communities in your city, please visit our website.

  • Balcony Decor Ideas For Summer

    Jun 13, 2018

Summer is just around the corner, so it’s time to make the most of your balcony. Timbercreek is here to help with some great balcony decor ideas. Your refreshed outdoor space will be so nice you'll want to sleep on it!

    iStock-642745678

    Cushioned Bench

Many apartment balconies are small, but that doesn’t mean they can’t be royally adorned. While there may not be room for full size Muskoka chairs, a good bench, complete with outdoor-ready cushions, can be the perfect fit. A two seater will provide all the deck lounging you’ll need. Check it out.

    Flowers and Veggies

Balconies are ideal for growing flowers and veggies. While exposure to sun is generally preferred, as long as there isn’t all-day shade you should be able to grow flowers and plants including edibles like herbs, tomatoes, cucumber, and hot peppers. With a little TLC they will blossom. Even the most space-limited patio can be turned into a micro-garden of eden. Read more.

    Twinkle Lights

Despite the name, twinkle lights (better known as string or rope lights) are both hip and functional. Don’t be fooled, they’re not just for Christmas. A small balcony can get a lot of mileage out of just one string, adding atmosphere and a welcoming nighttime glow. The price is definitely right as well. Find out more.

    Table for Two

Patios of any size, especially the small ones, should still be functional. While entertaining a host of friends might be tough, a table for two should be doable. A plethora of styes and options abound. Opt for options that are easy to store like folding, collapsible, and hanging versions. These are excellent for odd angled, small sized balconies that don’t have room for furniture to be out 24/7. Read more.

    Outdoor rug

The majority of urban balconies are made of concrete, so it’s essential to warm them up a bit. Thankfully there’s a big range of sturdy yet fashionable outdoor rugs and carpeting that can make your balcony space feel more cozy and liveable. If you want to go vintage, don’t forget the old-school Florida-style throw-back, astroturf!

Timbercreek hopes this list has given you some fresh decor ideas for decking out your balcony this season. For more information about Timbercreek Communities in your city, please visit our website.

  • Dollar Shave Club

    Jun 12, 2018
    iStock-672089638

Buying your Dad a razor is a decent and classic Father’s Day gift, but buying him a steady supply is genius! Dollar Shave Club offers great razors, delivered to your door every month, for next to nothing. Timbercreek is here to help you get better acquainted with their subscription service, and make your dad's year.

    The Concept

Razors haven't changed much over the years. Sure, today they come in multiple blades, with slicks of aloe vera to guarantee a clean close shave. But the basic principle of a sharp blade that dulls over time, and regularly needs replacing, remains. Up until now, you pretty much had to hit the drug store on a regular basis to replenish your supply. Dollar Shave Club has changed the game by delivering razors to men at a lower cost. Finally. By eliminating the need for stores and the middleman, DSC can source a good product in bulk and deliver it to you for less than it costs you to drive to a drug store and pick up yourself.

    Their pricing

It’s actually not a dollar per month as their name suggests. The base DSC package is just $3.50/month. It includes a free handle, and 5 2-blade cartridges. Where it works out to a dollar is in the 5 2-razor blades a month. Divided by $3.50 it works out to a small number with a decimal in it, so it’s actually less than a dollar.

    The Competition

Customers claim to spend up to $40 a month on razors. While that’s excessive, one razor from a brand like Gillete can easily go for $5 to $15. Dollar Shave Club sells their products for almost half the price.

    Great Simplicity

Dollar Shave Club offers 3 kinds of blades. That’s it. Three. This translates into an easy-to-buy product. Cheap and easy to buy is a great combination.

    Get it for Dad

Father’s Day is coming and Dollar Shave Club makes a great gift. Sign up, order, wait for shipping -- that's all it takes! Find out more.

  • 5 Father’s Day Gift Ideas for Every Type of Dad

    Jun 11, 2018

It’s almost time to celebrate Dads. Once a year, we get the chance to honour our fathers for all they’ve done and all they do. And while a tie or some Old Spice are always killer Dad gifts, a little thought can make the occasion extra special this year. For inspiration for ways shower your Dad with thanks, and let him know you care, Timbercreek brings you this list of gift ideas for Father’s Day.

    iStock-686292550

    Man-Spa Treatment

The high end barber shop trend has inspired a ton of man-pampering products and services. From standard haircuts to straight blade shaves, beard oiling, neck massages and cigars, things have progressed since the candy-striped barber pole days. Treat your Dad to a pampering experience, and upgrade if possible to include a bourbon (or scotch) and a cigar. He’ll talk about it for the whole year. Check it out.

    Gift Cards

Gift cards are small, plastic, and impersonal,  but they’re also small, plastic, and totally useful! There's a gift card for any dad -- LCBO, SAQ, Home Depot, The Keg, Canadian Tire, iTunes, Amazon, Bass Pro Shops, Walmart, Indigo, The Bay, Golf Town, Best Buy, Kobo. Need we go on? A well-chosen gift card is an excellent gift for your Dad.

    Dinner and a Movie

Dates aren’t the only occasions for this classic combo. Pick up some ingredients for Dad’s favourite meal and prepare it yourself, or treat him to dinner at his favourite place. Follow up with his choice of movie, and make sure to get popcorn. Find out more.

Putting the Man back in Manicure

If you haven’t had one, you don’t know what you’re missing. While most often associated with female pampering, Mani-Pedis are magic -- plain and simple. From the functional aspect of nail cutting and cuticle removal, to the purely aesthetic nature of the whole thing happening in a massage chair, a Mani-Pedi should be something every Dad has the pleasure of trying at least once. Check it out.

    Go-Carting

No, they’re not just for kids. Go carts are the closest thing to car racing grown men can get. They’re fast, you can ram into stuff, cut tight corners, fishtail: it’s all there for the taking. While downtown and/or indoor tracks can be hard to find, most cities have a least one centrally located location for your Dad to explore. Read more.
