    Comic Con comes to Hamilton this October.  Today on the blog we will give you a brief breakdown of this upcoming event, including festival information, how to get tickets and some of the festivals best bets. Timbercreek Communities’ Hamilton apartments are located throughout the city’s most vibrant and bustling areas.

    Hamilton Comic Con 2015

    Hamilton Comic Con 2015 will feature more than 150,000 square feet and three floors of artists, exhibitors, movie and television celebrities, comic books, seminars, question and answer sessions, costume contests and much more. The event is presented by Mohawk College in order to showcase the rich culture of Hamilton and the city’s appreciation for all things arts & culture related. The event runs on October 3rd and October 4th and takes place at the Hamilton Convention Centre. The Hamilton Convention Centre is only a ten-minute walk from Timbercreek’s 205 Hunter Street West Community in Hamilton.

    Tickets are on sale now and are available from hamiltoncomiccon.com. There are a number of ticket options and packages available, including individual day passes, two-day passes and VIP passes. The VIP pass provides you with early access into the show, a speed pass for front line access to each celebrity Q&A session and plenty of Hamilton Comic Con swag.

    Best Bets


    The DeLorean time machine from the Back to the Future franchise will be on display at the Hamilton Comic Con Festival for both days. In the feature film series, Dr. Emmett Brown builds a time machine based on an automobile, a DeLorean DMC – 12, with the intent of gaining insights into history and the future.

    General Lee

    The General Lee is another famous feature film car, a 1969 Dodge Charger featured in the television series, The Dukes of Hazzard. The General Lee is known for its signature horn, police chases and amazing stunts. The General Lee will be appearing at Hamilton Comic Con both days.

    Sharknado Reunion

    The cult classic movie franchise Sharknado will be hosting a cast reunion at the Hamilton Comic Con Festival. This reunion will feature stars of the film including Ian Ziering and Tara Reid, who will be coming together for a fun and interactive Q&A session.

    Hamilton Comic Con is sure to be an amazing event filled with exciting celebrity appearances, great costumes, vendors and more.

    Halifax Pop Explosion is back for another year of awesome music, entertainment, activities and more. Today on the blog, Timbercreek Communities gives you a sneak peek at what to expect for this year’s festival. Our Halifax communities are located in the most vibrant and bustling areas of the city, within walking distance to all of life’s amenities.

    What is Halifax Pop Explosion?

    Halifax Pop Explosion is an international music festival and conference that showcases TC Halifax Pop180 bands in 20 venues over five days to over 30,000 fans. This festival has been taking place annually in Halifax for over 20 years and is an internationally acclaimed music event. Halifax Pop Explosion showcases new, innovating and exciting talent in genres from hip hop to punk and from folk to indie rock. You can expect to see acts such as July Talk, Travis Scott, Purity Ring, Cancer Bats, Dear Rouge and many more.

    Tickets and Venues

    Halifax Pop Explosion 2015 will be taking place from October 20th until October 24th in a variety of venues including the Atlantica Hotel, Gus’s Pub and Grill and the Olympic Community Hall. The Atlantica Hotel is less than a 15-minute transit ride from Timbercreek’s 41 Cowie Hill Road Apartment in Halifax. Early bird passes are on sale now with wristbands going for $79 and “skip the line” passes for $159. Most events are 19+.

    Purity Ring

    Purity Ring is a Canadian electronic music duo formed in 2010. The band consists of Megan James on vocals and Corin Roddick handling instrumentals.


    Alvvays has become a household Canadian indie-rock band, with their self-titled first album reaching number one on US college charts in 2014. This indie-pop/rock trio consists of Molly Rankin, Kerri MacLellan and Alec O’Hanley.

    Rich Aucoin

    Rich Aucoin is a Canadian indie-rock musician based in Halifax, Nova Scotia. He was nominated for the 2012 Polaris Music Prize and has won a Prism Prize for his music video “Brian Wilson is A.L.I.V.E”.

    Autumn Minestrone Soup

    Enjoy this healthy Autumn Minestrone Soup or freeze it for nutritious make-ahead TC Guelph Soupmeals. This recipe is full of vegetables but has a creamy twist thanks to a bit of milk, bacon and cheddar cheese. Autumn Chowder is essentially comfort in a bowl and perfect for those cooler fall nights.

    Kale White Bean and Sausage Soup

    Try this recipe for Kale White Bean and Sausage Soup for a healthy, hearty and easy autumn lunch or dinner. This soup is destined to be a crowd pleaser and your little ones won’t even complain about the kale. This soup is also packed with protein and nutrients thanks to all of the kale and cannellini beans. For a vegetarian twist, simple take out the sausage and enjoy.

    Thai Spiced Pumpkin Soup

    Spice things up a little bit this fall with this recipe for Thai Spiced Pumpkin Soup. This pumpkin soup recipe is perfect for the autumn season and simple to make. It’s also less than five ingredients, takes only a couple minutes of active cooking time and requires only a blender and a pot to create. Keep in mind that different Thai curry pastes have differing strengths, and to start with a small amount and build from there until you reach your desired level of spice.

    Culture Days in Winnipeg invite both locals and tourists to explore, discover and participate in the arts and culture of the local area and to celebrate its diverse community. Today on the blog, Timbercreek Communities will have a look into Culture Days Manitoba and what makes this celebration so unique, including a few of the can’t-miss events. Our Winnipeg apartments are located in some of the most bustling and diverse areas of the city including the beautiful St. Vital Community and the heart of downtown Winnipeg.

    What are Culture Days?

    Culture Days are series of free events that celebrate the diverse arts and culture of Canada. This year’s Culture Days Manitoba will take place on September 25, 26 and 27. This event features free, hands-on, interactive activities, shows, lectures, workshops and more.

    Let’s check out some of Culture Days’ best bets including Nuit Blanche, the Mexican Revolution Photo Exhibition, the Canadian Museum for Human Rights Tour and Honey Days.

    Nuit Blanche:

    Nuit Blanche is one of Culture Days’ biggest and most visited events. On Saturday, September 26th from 6 p.m. all the way to 6 a.m., Nuit Blanche will take over Winnipeg with a night of exploration and a celebration of contemporary art. This event is free for the public and is a must-see event for families, friends, and art-lovers and just about everyone else. The Manitoba Crafts Museum & Library, one of the locations for Winnipeg’s Nuit Blanche, is less than a ten-minute walk from Timbercreek’s 160 Smith Street Apartments.

    The Mexican Revolution Photo Exhibition

    The Mexican Revolution Photo Exhibition offers a stunning and never-before-seen look into images of the Mexican Revolution, dating back to 1910. The Mex Y Can Association presents this rare, powerful and compelling exhibit of period photographs of one of the twentieth century’s longest and deadliest conflicts. You can expect to see images of women warriors, child labourers, military rulers, the poor, privileged elites and charismatic revolutionaries.

    The Canadian Museum for Human Rights Tour

    This free tour is targeted to students in grades nine to 12 and offers a complimentary tour and free activities as part of Winnipeg’s Culture Days.     Honey Days

    Honey Days is a unique event that explores all things honTC Winnipeg Cultureey. This one-of-a-kind event will feature local Manitoba artisans creating works of art and unique items from honey, watching live bees in action and an informative speaking session on the power of bees (and their honey). You can also purchase local products for yourself, friends and family.

    Get to know Cambridge’s art scene a little better with Timbercreek Communities’ guide to the Cambridge Centre for the Arts. Timbercreek’s Cambridge apartments at 204 Hespeler Road are located in a bustling community only minutes from recreational facilities, entertainment, great schools, shopping, dining options and more.

    What is the Cambridge Centre for the Arts?

    The Cambridge Centre for the Arts is a municipally operated community arts centre TC Cambridge Artsthat provides quality programming through workshops, art shows, classes, a full time gallery, special events and more. The Cambridge Centre for the Arts is located in the heart of downtown Cambridge and is a five-minute drive from Timbercreek’s 204 Hespeler Road Community. This local arts centre also includes a gift shop, pottery studio, five program spaces and an auditorium.

    The Cambridge Centre for the Arts offers an exciting selection of programs that are taught by highly qualified arts educators in a variety of disciplines. There are also drop-in programs, workshops and special events available.

    There are three upcoming gallery showings for 2015. They include:

    Kid’s Programs

    Three of the Centre’s most popular children’s programs include “Going Green with Your Sewing Machine”, Pottery for Kids and Drawing & Painting. These programs are available for kids aged nine to 13 and are designed to get kids in touch with their creative side. The kid’s programs at Cambridge Centre for the Arts are available year round, including during the summertime, after school and during March Break.

    Drop-in Programs for Adults

    Drop-in programs for adults include a Pottery Studio, Life Drawing, Ballroom Dancing, Sewing and Quilting classes and much more. Classes typically take place at night from 6:30 p.m. onwards during the week. These classes and workshops are a fun way to explore your more artistic side and to make friends in the process.
