  • Spice up your space with a stencil

    Apr 27, 2015

Spruce up your space by using versatile stencils. This unique option is cheap, inexpensive and can enhance almost any space in your home. Timbercreek Communities’ Windsor apartments are located in some of the most sought-after areas of the city including properties overlooking the Detroit River, within walking distance to the University of Windsor and in bustling downtown Windsor.

    Stencil Silhouette Canvas

Making art has never been so easy or looked so great than with this DIY Silhouette TC Windsor StencilCanvas Project. For this do-it-yourself piece of artwork you will need a canvas in the size of your choice, acrylic paint, old magazines, scissors, Mod Podge and sandpaper. To create this craft you first cut up your old magazines and use the Mod Podge to adhere them to your canvas. There is no rhyme or reason to this, just ensure the entire canvas is covered. Once it’s dry, trace your silhouette/stencil with a pencil on the canvas and then paint over the remaining canvas.

    Stencil Coasters

Incorporate stencils into your home accessories with these simple yet elegant Stenciled Coasters. These unique coasters are made from recycled CDs or DVDs and are great to have around the home and to give as gifts. All you need are a couple of recycled CDs or DVDs, sandpaper, glue, felt, scissors, matte varnish, acrylic paint and your chosen stencil. Start by sanding the CD until the coating is removed and painting it in the colour of your choice. Stencil on the designs, add clear varnish and attach your felt to the back of the CD’s. Voila, you’re done! Supplies for your Stencil Coasters can be found at Dollarama, located less than a ten-minute walk from Timbercreek Communities’ 7890 St. Rose Avenue Apartments.

    Stenciled Tables

Create a unique piece of furniture by incorporating some beautiful stencils onto it. This is a quick and easy way to spruce up a boring old piece of furniture and to breathe new life into it. Try these Bamboo Veneered Side Tables for the perfect stenciled table. You will need a table, large sheets of newsprint, paper-backed bamboo veneer, adhesive, photos of flowers, double-sided tape, sandpaper, polyurethane and master’s tape. For the full instructions including picture demonstrations, be sure to check out the Crafty Nest website.

    Stenciled Cabinet Doors

This Stenciled Cabinet Doors project involves applying a beautiful stencil to the glass window of a dining room cabinet. This could easily be adapted to a number of other pieces of furniture and fixtures. For this project you will need a stencil, white acrylic paint and a sponge stencil brush. Walmart is only a five-minute drive from Timbercreek Communities’ 1400 Ouellette Avenue Apartments and is a convenient and inexpensive place to pick up supplies for all of your stencil projects.

Add a little excitement into your apartment by incorporating stencils. This is a fun way to customize your home décor without spending lots of money or causing any damage to your apartment.

  • 5 Small changes for a greener life in your Oakville apartment

    Apr 16, 2015

Become more eco-friendly this springtime with the following five simple yet effective tips for a greener lifestyle in your Oakville apartment. Timbercreek offers beautiful rentals located in the heart of Kerr Village, which overlooks scenic Lake Ontario.

    Get rid of junk mail

Get off junk mail lists today as this direct mail creates unnecessary paper waste. To start cutting down, clearly indicate on your mailbox that you do not want to receive junk mail and begin contacting organizations to ask to be removed from their mailing and traded lists.

    Reusable BagsTD Oakville Green Living

Easily reduce landfill waste by incorporating reusable bags into your shopping routine. Plastic bags take a huge toll on the environment and landfill waste can be reduced in a big way by using an eco-friendly reusable bag instead. These bags come in a variety of sizes, prints and patterns and can be crafted from numerous materials and fabrics. Homesense is a 30-minute transit ride from Timbercreek’s 75 Stewart Street apartments and is a great place to pick up your stylish reusable shopping bags.

    Laundry time

When using the washing machine it’s always best to use cold water and to try and wash your laundry at non-peak hours. In the warmer months you can also try using a drying rack or clothesline whenever possible to dry your laundry.

    Eco-friendly eating

Make it a rule to try and shop only for grocery items that you know you will use to reduce food waste. Other eco-friendly eating principles include eating less meat, consuming more greens, eating less packaged food items and buying from local suppliers and producers wherever possible. Did you know that if every Canadian replaced one meal of chicken per week with a vegetarian option, the carbon dioxide savings would be almost equal to taking more than 250,000 cars off the road? Try incorporating meatless Mondays into your weekly routine.

    Use less water

There are many ways to cut your water consumption, decrease the cost of your water bill and ultimately help out the environment. Easy ways to cut down on water consumption include turning the water off while you brush your teeth and shortening the length of your daily shower by two minutes.
