Holiday Baking with Kids

Dec 23, 2024

Have some family fun in the kitchen with the following kid-approved holiday baking recipes from Timbercreek Communities. They are simple, classic, and fun to make!

Sugar Cookies
Sugar cookies are a timeless holiday classic that are easy to bake and taste amazing. The following recipe is provided by ‘Hotly Spiced’ and is available here. Once the dough is prepared, cut with a variety of cookie cutter shapes and arrange one inch apart on ungreased cookie sheets. Bake the cookies for 8-10 minutes and transfer to wire racks to cool. For all of your sugar cookie decorations such as sprinkles, icing, and candy, check out Bulk Barn, located less than a 10-minute drive away from our 75 Stewart Street apartments in Oakville.

Chocolate Peppermint Sandwiches
What could be more child-friendly than holiday chocolate peppermint sandwiches? Once you have the cookie sides baked and the filling prepared (see ‘Tracey’s Culinary Adventure’ blog here), match the cookies in pairs by size, pipe a small amount of filling onto one of the pairs, and sandwich together. You can then roll the edges of the cookies in festive sprinkles or crushed candy cane pieces for a holiday approved look.

Gingerbread Stars
For Gingerbread ingredients and full baking instructions, check out ‘Technicolor Kitchen’s’ blog here.  Once the dough is made and rolled out, use a star shaped cookie cutter (or any other shape you like) to cut the dough into fun shapes. Place the shapes onto a parchment or wax paper lined baking sheet and bake for 10 minutes or until golden brown. Once they have cooled completely feel free to have your kids decorate to their heart’s content! Food Basics is located less than a 3-minute walk away from our 444 Kerr Street apartments, and has all the necessary ingredients for your gingerbread stars at a great price.
