Fun for the whole family in Ottawa

Jul 17, 2025

Enjoy a local, affordable and fun play date with the following suggestions for great places to plan a family adventure in Ottawa.

Midway Family Fun Park
Midway Family Fun Park is one of Ottawa’s favourite destinations for family fun and adventure. This children’s play haven includes an arcade, mini golf area, kiddie train, bumper cars, jungle gym, rock climbing and more. Midway Family Fun Park started as a corner arcade in 1979 and has evolved throughout the past 35 years to become the city’s premier destination for family adventure. The facility itself is 50,000 square feet (yes, 50,000!) full of activities for everyone (even Mom and Dad). Midway Family Fun Park also features an onsite Bistro filled with great food options including healthy snacks, pizzas, wraps, burgers and more. For more information on the Midway’s fees and admission packages please visit their website available here. Midway Family Fun Park is only a five-minute drive from Timbercreek’s Ottawa apartments at 2920 Fairlea Crescent.

Plan a Picnic
Take advantage of the many parks and trails located near Timbercreek’s Ottawa communities and have a fun family picnic and play date. There are three local parks within a ten-minute walk of our Fairlea Apartments including Sandalwood Park, Heatherington Park and Sharel Park. Pack a portable basket with all of the necessary items for your picnic including:

  • Healthy snacks
  • Drinks and extra water
  • Sunblock
  • Utensils and paper products
  • Blankets or portable chairs to sit on
  • Activities for the kids (and a book for Mom or Dad)

Picnics are also the perfect opportunity to get in some fun physical activity (and have your kids burn some energy). Bring along some games, music, sports gear (i.e. a Frisbee) and some simple crafts for hours of effortless and inexpensive entertaining.

The Canadian Children’s Museum
The Canadian Children’s Museum aims to enrich children’s lives, broaden their cultural experiences and provide them with a creative space in which to learn about the world and experience adventure. The museum features over 30 permanent exhibit spaces filled with a rich assortment of materials including hands-on artifacts, props, art, costumes and more. The museum is the national leader among children’s museums in Canada and is a great place to take the whole family for an educational and fun play date. The Canadian Children’s Museum is a 15-minute drive from Timbercreek’s 2920 Fairlea Crescent community.

Whether you are visiting the kid-oasis at Midway Family Fun Park, enjoying the great outdoors with a local picnic or taking in some kid-friendly culture at the Children’s Museum, your family is bound to have an amazing day of adventure and fun in Ottawa.

To enjoy some quality family time from the comfort of your own home, why not stay in and enjoy the on-site facilities that Timbercreek’s Fairlea Apartments have to offer? Take advantage of the outdoor swimming pool and serene picnic area for your next play date.
