Weekend Getaway in Halifax | Things To Do

Oct 10, 2019

Whether you live in Halifax or you're just visiting, there are some amazing weekend trips you can take to escape the city. Timbercreek Communities has four amazing getaway suggestions for you!

Cabot trail

Hike and Explore the Cabot Trail

Nature enthusiasts will love hiking the Cabot Trail. It's only 4 hours away from Halifax, making a trip to Cape Breton Island and the Cabot Trail the perfect weekend getaway. You can check out the hiking trails in Cape Breton Highlands National Park or simply drive along the scenic coastline and enjoy its breathtaking views. For the most spectacular sunset, hike the Franey Trail to the Skyline Trail. It’s definitely challenging, but totally worth it.

History and Culture at Annapolis Royal

Visit the quaint town of Annapolis Royal if you’re looking for a vacation with history and culture. This unique spot used to be inhabited by Mi’kmaq, an indigenous group who lived there thousands of years before the Europeans arrived. Start the day off by checking out Canada’s oldest National historic site, Fort Anne, and then head down to the waterfront for some shopping and lunch! You can also stop by the Annapolis Royal Historic Gardens or the year-round Annapolis Royal Farmers’ and Traders’ Market -- which just happens to be Nova Scotia’s largest outdoor market.

Relax at White Point Beach Resort

Escape to White Point Beach Resort for the ultimate relaxing weekend! This iconic hotel is right on a sandy beach overlooking the ocean and it’s open year-round so you can plan your stay whenever! This is the perfect place to unwind, have bonfires on the beach, eat gourmet food and visit the spa. You’ll leave the resort feeling totally relaxed and rejuvenated.

Stay at a Cozy Bed and Breakfast

For a super relaxing weekend, try escaping to a nearby bed and breakfast. This is a great way to slow down, recharge and enjoy the simple life. The Green Dragon Organic Farm and B&B is the perfect place to relax, eat organic produce and enjoy nature. It’s a Biodynamic and eco-friendly farm and it’s located in the village of Tatamagouche. You can also head to the east shore of Nova Scotia and stay at DesBarres Manor Inn. This is a wonderful place to have a romantic getaway, relax by the ocean and eat gourmet food.

For an incredible weekend getaway, you don’t have to take a plane. Within a few hours of Halifax, you can visit some amazing places and have the best vacation.
