How to shop for your shape

Ah, the frustration of the fitting room. If you’re like most women, you’ve probably experienced the confusion of finally finding something in your size, only to find that it doesn’t fit very well. Is the size wrong? Not exactly. It’s more like size doesn’t matter. Shopping for your shape is the key to finding clothes that fit your body well, and not just the store mannequin. Accentuate the Positive

Every body has its positive assets. Shopping for your shape is all about learning what those are and making the most of them. No matter what your shape, there are clothes to flatter it. So, we suggest starting by finding out what shape you are:

Pear

If you are a pear shape, it’s most likely that when you gain weight, it shows mostly on your bottom and legs. Your waist is defined, and your shoulders and bust line are narrower than your hips. Look for A-line shapes to accentuate your waist and flow with your natural shape.

Inverted Pear

An inverted pear is defined by wider, athletic shoulders, a fuller bust line, straight waist and smaller hips. To find a balanced look you’ll want to keep it more simple up top. V-necklines will look great on you! Look for skirts, as well as dresses and pleated pants with belts that give the illusion of a waist.

Apple

You have long legs, a round bottom, little waist definition and a full bust line. Look for drapey shapes that lengthen your torso and gloss over the midsection. Showcase your legs with shorter skirts, dresses and leggings.

Hourglass

Your hips and shoulders are of equal width,and your waist is defined. You gain weight in your bottom and bust line. Skip the flowing fabrics and look for clothes that follow your natural curves, accentuating the waist.

Rectangle

You’ve got long legs and a shapely bottom. Your hips, waist and shoulders are approximately the same width. You’re going to look great in clothes that show off your bottom half and help define your waistline. Dresses and blouses are a good bet and the right belt can bring it all together.
