• How to work efficiently at home

    May 12, 2020

If you suddenly find yourself working from home, it can be a big adjustment. It can be hard to practice discipline in an environment normally designated for rest and relaxation. But not to worry, we have some great tips for you that will help you work more efficiently at home.

    Carve out space

This one matters more than you might excpect. Part of the issue many remote workers face when it comes to efficiently working from home is separating work space and personal space. When you’re surrounded by all the things you enjoy in your off hours (the kitchen, TV, bathroom, couch etc), it’s easy to get distracted. A good way to combat this is to designate an official workspace in your home that is exclusively reserved for work. This way when you’re in your workspace you know it’s time to get down to it. This can be a room (if there’s one available), a nook within a room, or even just a desk or table.

    Take scheduled breaks

Breaks make most workers more productive, not less. It’s important to stop and step away from what you’re doing now and then so you can better focus your mind and give it a chance to rest. We recommend taking short, scheduled breaks throughout the day to recharge and refresh.

Make an agenda for the day

If you fail to plan you plan to fail. Make a work agenda for each day and stick to it. This will help you stay on task, meet your deadlines and focus.

    Dress for the day

Another psychological one. Be sure to get up every day and dress as if you’re going to work. You don’t have to wear a suit, but it’s important to dress in a manner you’d expect a professional in your occupation to dress. By dressing for work you send a signal to yourself that it’s time to work.

    Set hours

You wouldn’t go to work indefinetly, so set working hours for yourself. When you work from home, it’s easy to let the time roll by without giving it a second thought because you’re already at home. Just like in an office, when 5pm rolls around you know it’s time to put things down and head out for the day.

We hope you give these working from home tips a try. Let us know how you do!

  • How to Work in 30 minutes of Cardio During your Busy Work Day

    Aug 09, 2019

Some of us have really hectic schedules and the idea of fitting in a workout can feel impossible. But there are a few ways that you can sneak in some exercise, even on the busiest day. Timbercreek Communities has five tips for how you can pack in 30 minutes of cardio during your busy work day.

    Man stretching in bedroom

Get out of bed and stretch

One of the first things you can do when you get out of bed is stretch. Start with just 5 minutes and work your way up to 10 minutes. It’s easy because you don’t need to go anywhere or put on gym clothes. All you have to do is set your alarm 5-10 minutes earlier. Everything is tight after a night of sleep, so stretching is the perfect way to elongate your spine and muscles and also improve your circulation.

Calf raises and squats while brushing teeth

This is a pretty simple and fun exercise that you can do anywhere! The best part is that you will barely feel like you’re exercising because it will become a part of your brushing routine. It doesn’t have to be done while you're brushing your teeth. You can do it when you’re boiling water, microwaving food and brushing your hair.

10 sit-ups and 10 Russian twists before your shower

You might have a busy schedule, but everyone has 20 seconds to spare. Right before you jump in the shower, work your abs with 10 sit-ups and Russian twists. These exercises are good for your obliques and lower abdomen. And if you have a little more time to spare, do 3 sets of 10!

    Stretch throughout your day

Take breaks during the day as much as you can -- especially if you sit at a desk all day. Movement is important for circulation, muscle health and mental health -- so don’t sit in a chair for more than an hour at a time. In fact, you should stand up every 20-30 minutes and take at least a few minutes to stretch.

Switch up your commute (take the stairs)

One of the easiest ways to increase your exercise is to take the stairs whenever you have the chance. It might not seem like much, but at the end of the day it will add up! This will increase your heart rate and burn more calories.

So what are you waiting for? Get moving! Timbercreek hopes you enjoyed these 5 tips for how you get in some cardio throughout your busy work day.
