    Yoga

Try something a little different this year for Mother’s day and take your mom to a yoga class. It’s a great way to bond and nurture your mind, body and soul. You can also try puppy yoga, which is a 1-hour yoga class with puppies running around. The Hive is a company that organizes classes in a few Canadian cities, so be sure to check out their site to find a puppy yoga class near you!

    Wine Tasting

If your mom enjoys a glass of red after a long day, treat her to brunch and a wine tasting for Mother’s Day. This is a really fun way to spend time with your mom and celebrate this special holiday. There are many wineries to choose from in Niagara On the Lake, Prince Edward County or in Quebec. Most places will serve a full menu, or at least appetizers. If you don’t want to venture out too far, you can also try The Wine Shop and Tasting Room. You’ll get pretty close to a winery experience without having to drive out to one.

    Family Bike Ride

Head out for a bike ride with the whole family this year. This is a great activity that everyone can participate in and it’s a fantastic way to get some exercise and enjoy the beautiful spring weather. There are many great hiking trails to choose from, so you have plenty of options. Check out the Martin Goodman Trail or the Toronto Islands for a beautiful ride along the water, Taylor Creek for a wooded trail and the Humber Valley Heritage Trail for a scenic ride through forests and meadows.

    Sip and Paint/Plant Night

Another unique Mother’s Day experience is a Sip and Paint Night. It’s a super fun and creative evening where you can enjoy a glass of wine while creating your very own masterpiece. You’ll learn a little about painting and mixing colours, but mostly it’s about having fun and exploring your creative side. Check out Paintlounge or Art Tonite for some upcoming events. And if painting is not your thing, you can try something similar where you get to create a tabletop planter while sipping on your favourite glass of wine. To find paint and plant events near your, check out Yaymaker.

    Botanical garden

If you’re looking for a relaxing and peaceful activity for you and your mother to enjoy, think about visiting a botanical garden. You can spend a couple of hours exploring the local and exotic plants and flowers, strolling through the garden and even learn something new! Allan Gardens and Edward Gardens are great options to check out in Toronto. Visiting a botanical garden is a great opportunity to get a closer look at a variety of plants that you might have only ever seen on TV, and the best part is that admission is usually free!

Forget about buying gifts this year and focus on making memories with these unique Mother's Day experiences. Timbercreek Communities hopes that these suggestions help you plan the best Mother’s Day!

  • Top 10 Mother’s Day Gift Guide 2017

    May 08, 2017

iStock-577952592Mothers are amazing. We wouldn’t exist without them! Mother’s Day gives us pause to be thankful for our parent and to reflect on our childhood. While we may occasionally argue, nitpick, obsess, or regress, it’s our mothers who understand us, know us, and love us the best. Mother’s Day is just around the corner, on Sunday May 14, 2017. To celebrate, Timbercreek Communities has created this Top 10 Mother’s Day Gift Guide to help you celebrate your mom.

    Flowers

Simple, classic, fragrant and loveable -- flowers really do say it all. From roses to a simple grocery store bouquet, flowers show your love and give your Mom a splash of color and fragrance that will brighten her whole week.

A Bottle of Wine or a gift card

Wine is almost always a great gift. Best of all it can be cheap yet thoughtful. If you don’t trust your own taste in wine, ask for help at your local wine store or the LCBO or skip the guesswork with a gift card like this.

    Massage or Reflexology

While upping the price point to between $50 and $120, a massage or reflexology session is a solid Mother’s Day gift option. If full body massage is too intense, the more minimal but no less effective foot reflexology can be a great alternative. Look for businesses like Massage Addict which only employ well trained Registered Massage Therapists.

    A book or gift card

If your mom is a reader, she will love a new book or an Indigo or Amazon gift card. You might need to drop some subtle hints to tease out a title that she wants without spoiling the surprise, but whether hard copy or gift card, it’s an inexpensive gift that goes a long way.

    Fitbit

The Fitbit is a solid gift idea for fit moms. Though it’s a slightly pricier option, the Fitbit is a thoughtful gift that simply and effectively encourages fitness by measuring steps per day. Get more info here.

    Chocolate

One word for this one: Toblerone. Or maybe two words: Ferrero Rocher.

    Scandinave Spa Day

An offshoot of our massage and reflexology idea, Scandinave Spa in Blue Mountain, Ontario is a full body, full day, pampering experience. From hot pools to saunas, steam bath and massage, Scandinave is a spa day Mom will love. Check the Scandinave website here.

    Beauty Products

From bubble bath to soaps and moisturizers, it’s pretty easy to hit a Mother’s Day home run with a few bath and/or beauty products. The Body Shop is a great place to grab pre-made gift packs. Learn more here.

    A Card

Last but not least is a simple card. From handmade to Hallmark, a card can accompany every gift, or be a gift in itself for Mother’s Day.

Happy Mother’s Day from Timbercreek Communities!
