  • Elegant Fall decor to add to your home

    Sep 24, 2018

Fall is the most naturally beautiful season of them all. Timbercreek Communities wants to help you bring a little of that autumn beauty into your apartment with some elegant fall decor to add to your home.

    Bedroom design in fall colours

    Foraged Fall Tableau

Add some fall to your foyer with a foraged fall tableau. Look for autumn textures and colours. Colourful leaves, pumpkins and gourds in various colours and sizes, and pinecones are a good place to start. You can bleach the pinecones and arrange them in a basket for an elegant look. Whether you forage for them out in nature or online, it’s amazing how a well-chosen bell jar or glass vase can elevate anything from ‘simple’ to ‘elegant’. You can also hollow out a pumpkin and use it as a vase.

    Warm It Up

A simple, effective, and inexpensive way to change the look and feel of a room is by tossing in a throw blanket and pillows. Elegant autumn decor should feel warm, cozy and inviting. A plaid blanket in colourful fall hues of red, orange and gold will do the trick. Drape it across the foot of you bed for chilly fall nights, or brighten up your living room sofa.

    Wreath It Up

Adding a simple Grapevine Wreath to a window, door or empty nook can be an easy and elegant way to celebrate the season. You can customize and enhance the look by adding real or faux gourds. Don’t overdo it -- understated and elegant is the way to go.

    Chalk It Up

Give any space an air of country charm with Chalkboard Art. Inspire yourself with a quote, draw a picture, or do anything you like. All you need is a chalkboard, chalk, and a wooden frame to give it that down-home elegance. Or, you can print this chalkboard art from Lolly Jane and create your own woodland frame.

    Leaf Art

Hold onto a little piece of autumn by creating some wall-worthy Leaf Art. No artistic ability is required! Simply glue brightly coloured leaves to card stock with a spray mount and arrange accordingly.

Timbercreek hopes these decor ideas help you bring the beauty of autumn into your apartment.

  • Small Movements that can Improve your Mood

    Sep 17, 2018

Controlling your emotions is no easy task. When you need to feel better fast, acting like you feel better can actually trick your mind into feeling better. Timbercreek Communities wants to share several small movements that can improve your mood.

    Mother & daughter hugging

    Smile

Even forcing a fake smile can make you feel happier. When the muscles used for smiling are engaged, you’re more likely to find something funny. Learn more about the facial feedback hypothesis.

    Got a Pen?

When you can’t muster even a fake smile, try putting a pen between your front teeth. Even forcing your face into a semblance of a smile can provide some stress relief.

    Go to Your Happy Place

Move your mind to find relief. By calling up cherished memories in your mind, you can improve our inner sense of joy and well being. When we’re stressed, it’s harder to recall these memories. Try to recall an object, or details about the location where the memory took place. This technique is called the "method-of-loci" strategy.

    Breathe

Pay attention to your breathing. A proper inhale and exhale should cause your abdomen to expand and contract. Your chest and shoulders should remain relatively still.

    Posture

Proper posture can enhance your mood, boost confidence, and make relaxed breathing feel more natural. Sit or stand straight and relax your shoulders.

Embrace Yourself and Move Toward Your Goal

The simple act of hugging yourself can reduce physical and emotional pain. Now, literally take a step forward. Put on your shoes to go to the gym. Step toward the door to tidy up your room. End the procrastination to improve your mood. Our brains can follow the lead of our bodies.

Timbercreek hopes these small but powerful movements help you pick yourself up when the chips are down. We all need some help from time to time. To find your home with Timbercreek Communities, please visit our website.

  • Celebrate National Honey Month and Plan a Honey Party!

    Sep 11, 2018

September is not only the transitional month between summer and fall, it’s also National Honey Month. If you haven’t made plans, Timbercreek Communities wants to help you celebrate National Honey Month and plan a honey party!

    Honey on a tray

    Plan a Potluck

A Honey Party is a great way to say goodbye to summer, welcome in the fall, and connect with your friends and neighbours. A Honey Party is a honey-themed potluck. Every dish should contain honey, but that doesn’t mean everything has to be sweet. Here are some great ideas for savoury honey-based dishes to share:

    Honey-Brined Grilled Shrimp

(4 servings, 6 shrimp per person)

Honey is used three ways in this Honey-Brined Grilled Shrimp recipe. It’s added to the brine so the shrimp absorb some sweetness. Those same shrimp are tossed in honey before grilling, and drizzled with honey after grilling. Sweet!

    Lemon-Honey Chicken Thighs

    (4 servings)

These sticky sweet and sour Lemon-Honey Chicken Thighs are easy to prepare and delicious. The recipe can be made with thighs or chicken breasts if you prefer. If you make chicken breast, cook them about 6 minutes per side.

    Honey-Roasted Carrots

    (4 to 6 servings)

When you make these Honey-Roasted Carrots, choose carrots that are approximately the same size to ensure even cooking. If you want to make the recipe more kid-friendly, you can swap out the bourbon for apple juice.

    Baklava

    (16 servings)

Baklava is a rich and sweet dessert from the Middle-East. It’s made with layers of flaky and delicate phyllo dough, chopped nuts (optional) and lots of honey (essential). It’s the perfect shareable dessert to pack up and travel with.

Timbercreek hopes you have a ball throwing a sweet Honey Party potluck this month.
